Wyatt Waddell’s protest song
Chicago-based artist Wyatt Wandell chose to dedicate a song to protesters to show his support. Fight! came about in just 24 hours, and is one of Wandell’s simplest and most direct songs. The track aims to accompany and energise demonstrators during protests by giving them inspiration and sharing a positive message.
There was a moment where the riots and things started happening, and I was just really affected by it. I got really scared. I really love riding my bike during the summer, and that could put me in jeopardy now because I could be pulled over for it. In that frustration, I didn’t know what to do. I either wanted to go out and fight with people and the police and whatnot, or write a song about it.
All proceeds from the track will be donated to organisations from the artist’s hometown: the Chicago Community Bond Fund, Black Lives Matter Chicago and Greater Chicago Food Depository.
