Pharrell Williams. Millions of green jobs to combat climate change

Pharrell Williams launches his message against climate change. He makes a plea for millions of green jobs to be created for generations to come.

Green jobs, all over the world. Millions of new jobs linked to an alternative and sustainable economy are the solution to combat climate change. And to give hope to young people. The American singer Pharrell Williams, whose song Happy was a global hit in 2014, has called on world leaders through a video message screened during the summit of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) held on 11 June in Genève, Switzerland. During the summit, the heads of state, such as the French president François Hollande, discuss the implications of climate change on workers, businesses and trade.

“I’m passionate about two big issues: climate change; and education and skills for young people. Climate change is one of the most defining issues of our time, one that threatens our very existence on Earth. And we’ve also got another serious problem on our hands: millions of young people who don’t have jobs. Right now, we have a unique opportunity to tackle climate change and to make sure that young people and our planet have a future that is sustainable for many generations to come. Making economies green could create millions of good, decent jobs all around the world.”

Pharrell Williams has been dedicating to challenge climate change for a long time and together with the Nobel Peace Prize and former US President Al Gore organised the Live Earth, international concert held for the first time in 2007 and that will be held on 18 June this year, in an extraordinary edition. This year’s Live Earth main stage will be in Paris, the city that will be hosting the United Nations’ negotiations for a new binding deal on climate (COP21).
