Arctic, the last frontier. Venice hosts a photo exhibition showing its beauty and adversity

Arctic, the last frontier is the title of a photographic exhibition displaying 120 pictures that will be held in Casa dei Tre Oci, Venice, from 15 January to 2 April.

One hundred and twenty pictures depicting powerful stories will be shown during the Artico, ultima frontiera (Arctic, the last frontier) exhibition that will be held from 15 January to 2 April 2017 in Casa dei Tre Oci, Venice, Italy.

The Arctic is a vast region of our planet that includes Greenland, Siberia, Canada, Alaska and Iceland, and plays an important role in regulating the climate of the Earth, where ecosystems are threatened by climate change.

Photojournalists Paolo Solari BozziRagnar Axelsson and Carsten Egevang thoroughly investigated this extreme environment and the Inuit’s culture, threatened by economic, social and environmental change, from three different points of view.

“In these pictures the imminence of global warming becomes urgency, as a painful struggle takes place, where humankind and its works are swallowed by the immense power of nature. The Casa dei Tre Oci based this project on the concepts of beauty and adversity, creating an exhibition that draws attention to natural landscapes and contemporary environmental issues”, said Denis Curti, art director of Casa dei Tre Oci and curator of the exhibition.

Besides pictures of the Arctic, the story includes three documentaries: SILA and the Gatekeepers of the Arctic by director and photographer Corina Gama; Chasing Ice, directed by young filmmaker Jeff Orlowski; and The Last Ice Hunters, directed by Jure Breceljnik and Rožle Bregar.

During the days of the exhibition other events and activities are scheduled, including a workshop hosted by the three photographers and Denis Curti that will take place on 15 January, and a project made in collaboration with Pleiadi. Finally, at the end of the show the pictures exhibited will be put up for auction.
