Bob Dylan wins the Nobel Prize in Literature 2016

Bob Dylan was awarded the prestigious recognition from the Nobel Committee in front of an emotional audience.

After more than a decade as one of the nominees for the Nobel Prize in Literature Bob Dylan has finally done it: he won the Swedish Academy’s prestigious recognition. The enigmatic and brilliant songwriter of Duluth, Minnesota unexpectedly won the prize of the 108th edition “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”.

Bob Dylan is the first songwriter to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, the most important cultural award, and, with it, a purse of approximately 900,000 dollars.

But it was not the first time that Dylan was in the list of the potential recipients. It’s more than a decade that the immortal author of Blowin’ in the wind and Like a rolling stone appears in it. But this time, in front of a visibly moved audience, he has finally won. It so happens that today Italian former winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, Dario Fo, has died.

Bob Dylan has won against Philip Roth, who has been frequently mentioned as a possible recipient, Japanese author Haruki Murakami, Kenyan writer Ngugi wa Thiong’o and Syrian poet Adonis.
